Leigh Park Carnival
Our first presentation was to the Warren Park RAC (Residents Advisory Committee) which is sponsored by Portsmouth City Council on behalf of the residents of its' registered social housing. Coming less than a month after our formation this was well received, and caught the attention of some of the local councillors who were willing to support us and provided help in formulating links and contacts to many other groups.
Our next invitation came at short notice from the Leigh Park Community Forum A residents group who meet at Leigh Park Community Centre, and this helped establish ourselves within the local community and enabled ourselves to get invitations to attend the Leigh Park Carnival. It also made it much easier to get to borrow Havant Borough Council carpark for the Sport Relief Extramile event held on 10th July 2004 when we launched the Logo for the first time.
As we became more established as a community based charity we received invitations to participate in many more events than we could hope to support given the limits of our volunteer base.
In May 2005 we were invited to participate in the development of the Infrastructure Development Plan, through the auspices of Community Action Hampshire. Responsible for steering the development and delivery of the best possible infrastructure development plan for Hampshire ensuring deadlines are met and ensure the successful delivery of ACU/DEFRA funded rural infrastructure projects. The IDP will be responsible to the consortium and report on its activities at each consortium meeting and we were very proud to be able to participate in its development.
Our commitment to rural aspects came in June 2005 through one of our members, Maria Madgwick who worked as a volunteer ranger at Queen Elizabeth Country Park when we were invited to a meeting to help develop some ideas in providing better access to the park for the disabled. We were able to table a report, which looked at the level of information about disabled access in comparison to similar parks and gardens which they took back to the website developers and since then the level of information has been improved.
As we participate in many more community based events we will ensure that these are made available through these pages.
